Illinois Electric Utility Rate Freeze
Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) reports that Illinois electric consumers have benefitted from a residential rate reduction and rate freeze since 1997. As a result of the electric rates freeze and rate reductions since 1997, residential customers are estimated to have saved about $4.5 billion.
After enjoying 20% cut on electric rates since 1997, Illinois electric consumers
are facing an electricity rate increase of at least 22% from 1 January, 2007. The rate freeze first implemented nine years ago at the time of the deregulation of Illinois' electric utilities expired on 31 December, 2006.
