Since electric deregulation started, Illinois electric consumers have the ability to purchase electricity generation service from any competitive supplier. Electric generation is usually worth about half of the total electric bill.
As part of the deregulation process, all Illinois electricity suppliers must provide environmental information in utility bills every quarter. Such as charts and graphs in utility bills that inform consumers the source of electricity and pollution level. Electric consumers can choose from a "mix" of electricity that comes from different sources of fuel such as solar, wind, biomass, nuclear, coal and natural gas.
